Small updates in this release:
- The AF override is now adjustable (no override, limited override to enable downsampling, full override)
- You can press F9 to toggle the mouse cursor on/off, as some people requested.
Don’t forget to read the README!
Consider donating if you like the mod.
Cheers!
Will there ever be support for movement blur, whatwith the framerate cap?
Well the framerate still drops to like 15 when resting at a bonfire and when in front of other particles. First still works great despite the text flaws, guess I will be sticking with that for the moment.
I don’t know who you are in the reality but from today you are my new god with arnold schwarzenegger and sylvester stallone.
Thanks a lot man!
FPS now locked on 15. But cursor toggling is working.
Oh sorry. Just fixed my resolution and everything ok, 30 fps.
Just curious but what exactly did you fix to get the FPS back to 30fps?
Same happens to me too, no matter what resolution I put in .ini or in-game.
Same here, the patch still causes my FPS to drop.
T_T You are a genius, thank you very much , I hope you will fix FPS drops than i can buy the game, i can’t beleave that you did something like this in this short time, From Software has non excuses, they produced the worst porting ever and you made it one of best JRPG in history of PC. Thak you !
Sorry for my bad English
You have a fucking problem if you think this is the “worst porting ever”.
Yes, technically and grafically, without fix, it is the worst for a 2012 game just see what a good porting made SEGA with Binary Domain after almost a month from console release but as i said before it is one of the best RPG and I’m glad that PC Gamers can play this masterpiece.
It’s not the worst. you have no idea how difficult it is to recompile code designed for a PS3 and port it over windows.
its ok to criticize, chill
“recompile code” …. You have no idea what you are talking about.
@donk
No, it’s not okay to criticize when you don’t even know what you’re talking about. This isn’t even a bad port. You know what was a bad port? Ghost Recon. Holy crap, two weeks after release and that game was still running at 10 fps. And that was AFTER they delayed it for more than a month.
No, I don,t and it seems neither do the people who ported it.
There’s no excuse for this miserable piece of unplayable shit, no matter how difficult it is.
People are expected to PAY MONEY for it. It doesn’t matter how hard it is, it’s their job to do it right.
Do you think if the house you live in collapsed and killed half your family “You have no idea how hard it is to build a house” is a good excuse?
“Do you think if the house you live in collapsed and killed half your family “You have no idea how hard it is to build a house” is a good excuse?”
No, but this is a video game, not a family-murdering house. You can’t just say a similar-but-infinitely-worse scenario to justify your rage. From warned everybody about the quality of the port before it came out, yet here you are, ignoring the warning. Besides, it’s been working fine (aside from not being able to summon anyone ever.)
Actually, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is a far worse port, if I’m not mistaken.
Yes, this port could have been far better, but its not BAD by a long shot. There are things that can’t be excused, but hey, at least the game works and plays well, without any massive game breaking bugs.
Thank god for the toggle button
Awesome mod! Now it’s just the background textures that need fixing.
Thanks for taking the time to do this, thanks alot
Thank you for all the effort! I’ve donated a couple bucks. Not much, but at least something. It’s the thought that counts.
Keep on the good work!
You know, I actually thought there would be a fix for Dark Souls but not at the rate you’re pumping them out.
You’re one damn talented individual managing to fix up a game with a closed engine.
Thanks a lot for your work!Right now, you’re the “god” of modders.
For me,i still can’t put the resolution on 640×480 but is okay…
Holy Crap. You’ve released 2 updates since I downloaded the first one and played for like an hour or so.
You have serious coding skills.
Thank you!
Thanks for telling us… I’ll refrain from downloading it then until a “complete” mod version can come out. Then the modder will be rich on our moneys.
Thank you very much
No bug with this version!!!
THX !!!
Thanks for the hard work on this!
This is absolutely awesome! However my system uses Nvidia Optimus and so does not load d3d9.dll injections properly, would it be too difficult to convert it to an .exe injector? (Write system process to .ini, run injector, run game, injector grafts in script?) I don’t know about this form of programming so I don’t know how difficult it would be. This is still a godsend and I am emailing around for a fix for optimus.
First, this fix is just awesome. However I have same problem here. I have i7 core and NV GT 650M with 8G ram Optimus laptop but couldn’t get good frames
I did some test then I found when I’m using this fix it just runs with intel HD4000 graphic card.. Not using NV 650M.. That’s why I got so bad FPS..
Yep, that’s what Optimus tends to do. For some strange reason one of the lines in the D3D9.dll Nvidia reads as a system process and uses the HD 4000. It does the same thing with FXAA post process injector and ENB shaders, although ENB shaders author has made a version which injects via an .exe. Albeit it is not as efficient, but either of our cards have the muscle to still easily hammer out the 30FPS on such an easy to run game. I have been playing Dark Souls nonstop but it breaks my heart to have to use the crappy native resolution (and gives me a headache!)
Same problem here, I checked my NVIDIA GPU activity and indeed, its not using the NVIDIA GPU but only the internal one after applying the mod.
Any hope for a fix in this regard? It would be really to bad to miss out on this great mod.
What I did was go into the Nvidia control panel, “manage 3d settings”, and change “preferred graphics processor” from “auto-select” to “high performance nvidia processor.”
I’m having the same problem. Setting the GPU to be generally preferred was the first thing I tried, but it didn’t help for me. I have no idea why.
That didn’t work for me, and i find it virtually impossible to believe that it worked for you! optimus despises .dll files nor can you manually whitelist them. Setting the default to the nvidia processor doesn’t change a thing for me in this situation or any other (like trying to run enb series with a dll for gta 4). A proper fix would be GREATLY appreciated. God i hate optimus.
Thank you so much for the good information. I learn so many thing from here
cheers!
Thank you so much for this!! I would’ve stopped playing Dark Souls on PC immediately if you wouldn’t have fixed it!
Thanks so much for all your hard work to make the game look it’s finest! I wonder if From Software knew their game could look so beautiful.
I would buy you lunch for such a job well done, but the Atlantic would get in the way. So next best thing, check donations and have lunch on me.
Wonderful work. Was excited about this before but now I’m ecstatic at the results. Too bad d3d9 files have issues with Optimus. I attempted to hex edit the .exe and renamed the dll this morning, which does work, but it breaks GFWL.
Having the same issue. I am waiting for the solution.
Same here, would love it if you can look into this as it’s unplayable with the Intel integrated chip. Donation your way!
I have the same issue. Awesome work by the author though, he has been working very hard so who knows what he’ll come up with next.
Is there anyway you could post a step by step to hex edit the .dll? I’m also running a laptop with optimus but I don’t mind breaking GFWL for a little bit in order to play.
Change the dll name and use a hex editor on the DATA.exe. I used Ultraedit.
http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/549049-for-nvidia-optimus-users-guaranteed-fix-for-post-process-injectors-using-d3d9dll/
BTW without GFWL, no saving…..
^Exactly why I hate GFWL with a bitter, dark hatred.

still have an issue, the game is only playing in 1/4 my screen? any ideas.
is any one else having this issue? i really dont want to play this game in that horrid res.
turn motion blur off in graphic settings
i did no effect
I had that, when I changed the forceFullshreen from 1 (on) to 0 (off) in the .ini it went away. Suboptimal, but it works to get a decent screen going.
sadly i am unable to find the .ini file where would i look?
i got it to work for any one having the same issue navidi newest beta drivers fixes the issue.
Turn off in game AA
having the same issue, no clue why; using original ini settings, my screen resolution is 1920×1080
Would you be available for an interview? Please feel free to contact me.
I got 17′ monitor with max 1280×1024 resolution. I got cuted up and bottom of screen in game. I put this fix into folder and change cfg and still i got cuted ;/
Sry for my english. How i can fix it?
works great. was playing @ your OG settings and it ran almost perfect, just a tad bit frame drop some time. set internal to 1920×1080 and is great.
there is a box with very thin black lines near the middle of the screen during company display images that appear when starting the game but doesn’t appear during gameplay.
looks much better. apply @ FromSoftware, use the millions of PC gamers out there who have idolized you over the last 12 hours as a reference.
Yeah I’m having this same issue, just a minor annoyance. Otherwise. Thank you sir. You are a god. And come payday net Thursday you are so getting a donation.
Thanks man! You’ve basically turned an unplayable mess into a proper port! This only makes the game devs look amateur, sadly. Good job!
sooo, if i’m not too demanding, i hope…
can you make a version for laptop people who use nvidia optimus? like the fellows a few posts up?
yes yes that would be great
I second/third/whatever the motion
I personally wanted to say thanks alot to Durante for doing the work of the many for free. I would donate but I’m short this pay, when my next one comes I’ll send a present ur way
, I feel sad FS didnt do this in the first place for the fact I would be able to praise them for their brilliant game but on PC though not gamebreaking for gameplay, The others who cant stand the grainy graphics you are keeping them going and making the great game shine for more SO keep it up you Bloody Legend XD

If possible could you add an option to disable the intro video?
I would love this as well. That is, removing the unskippable intro splash screens that happen when you launch up the game, or quit from a character to go back to the main title screen. BANDAI NAMCO GAMES FROM SOFTWARE HAVOK
Good work, but I’m still wonder if AMD/ATI fps drop is avoidable?
Press the end button, it skips it for me, dont know if you remapped.
weird posted in wrong space
The game looks absolutely gorgeous now.. You are a true gentleman and scholar. Many thanks to you for your skills and ingenuity, and From Software for making this masterpiece and bringing it to the PC.

F9 does not working for me. Don’t hide the mouse cursor. Why?
Ok, solved!
great work!
any chance for antialiasing like fxaa or smaa or anything?
since this is already a d3d hook, we can’t use stuff like fxaa injector.
Because the fps are limited to 15?
think i’m about the only person this doesn’t work for. everytime i use it i get http://gyazo.com/59db329c9fcaff5f7e151e64377e0a45 <– that and it sets it to 1440×810 no matter what resolution i use
Read the README file. Disable AA and motion blur ingame.
Mine gets set to 1440×810 creating a letterbox effect, motionblur/aa disabled, 1440×900 native resolution. All I want is the letterbox gone.
I suggest to remove Namco Bandai and From Software Intros (They have some strange vertical stripes), remove Bios Bip sound when off mouse cursor and fix FPS drop rate in the next realease if you can, Thank a lot, you’re genius.
If i set AF to X in my drivers, will it same as this fix?
Thanks so much for this, excellent work. Is it possible to use the Nvidia control panel to force AA on and such?
Question, probably a stupid one at that… but I just found out about this wonderful mod, do I have to download all three current versions, or does the latest files always contain previous updates, as expected?
Thank you.
The latest version is always the only one you need.
Can i use this mod (cursor lock…) together? http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2900481
Last question.
Will you work with comunity on steam (i do not know if you are already in or not)

Any chance of a borderless window mode?
Heya, really great work! Problem is that my gaming window is in a “window” that is weapon icon health icon everything except where you see your character and play is in upper left corner, any fix for this?
oh found it i was stupid enough not to turn off AA!
If i use fix my screen in game is just black with strange grey square and i can see only my hp,stamina …
oops fixed it , sorry just had to disable AA
Thanks for your fix by the way!
But considering you’re a genius and everything, I having freezing issues with the game. Every single time the game freezes in the EXACT same spot. At the beginning where the guy pushes down the boulder? he swings at me, then it just freezes, everytime. I have a good setup so I have no clue what could be wrong. I5-2500k, gtx560ti, p67 extreme 4. No one else has been able to help me whatsoever. Any hints or ideas??
I dont even no a support line I could contact
yea same thing happens to me its everytime you take damage
did anyone figured out how to get around this?
Donated some money for a just cause
Not much but considering I got this game at a reduced price, I think you deserve some of the money too. You certainly made this game better.
the best framerate on amd cards will be released in next versions?
Welp. Your famous and everyone is singing your praises, what next?
the screen is flickering with
filteringOverride 0
forceWindowed 0
forceFullscreen 1
You are the best. You keep posting these so fast. Thanks for making the PC experience more enjoyable. Praise the Sun.
i love you
despite F9 doesn’t seem to hide anything
Continue to press F9, it woks for me, you will listen a Bip sound of the Bios , sorry for the bad English
Thanks so much for this! This is why the PC community is awesome. Looking forward to spending a lot of time with this game and this mod totally justifies the wait for a PC release.
This mod is quite good but I’d like to mention something I’ve noticed. When/if I change the resolution settings in the .ini file the game no longer recognizes my save game. Luckily for me the default 1920×1080 is very close to my monitor resolution, which is 1900×1200, however I feel this ought to be mentioned so that hopefully it can be fixed for other people with different resolutions.
Thank you.
Thanks! Donated.
Here’s hoping you can sort out the textures / lod and add some more options like the FXAA Tool has
Gorgeous work. I’ve got an AMD CPU and Card. It’s an old CPU so performance isn’t great, but my 6870 is reporting 0% activity. I had a similar situation when Rage had just been released. Game still runs nice and, mostly, smooth though
. Thanks!
Thank you!
Work 100%
when version 0.4 will be released? =)
wow man. I grabbed my coffee and saw this. you have been busy. i just noticed the fps-vsync option in the ini. looking forward to having that capped slightly higher. will def help in those drop 15 fps areas. cheers
yes vsync very needed
My native resolution is 1440×900 , when I use DSFix with default internal resolution ( 2560×1440 ) and my native as the “present resolution” I get a letterbox effect (black bar at the top, bottom of screen) and in the log it mentions the requested mode being 1440×810 (creating the letterbox effect). Here is the log: http://pastebin.com/1hpn3EEb
any ideas on how I can fix this and get the game to run completely fullscreen at 1440×900 or is that not possible with this resolution?

Very nice job. Waiting for new releases.
Any idea if you’d be able to get a fix to get it to work better on ATI cards? I can imagine lots of people would be very greatfull.
Oh…isn’t any way to make this game to run in 640×480 mode…?

Wow. Great work so far!
I was just wondering if this is working for Win7 x64 users? I heard on the Steam forums that this fix causes the game to crash if you’re running a 64-bit version, but that was back in the first release.
I’m using 64 bit windows, so that’s just wrong.
Thanks for the reply. Whoever posted it must have been mistaken then.
You’are ignoring me,aren’t you pete?You’re a genius,so my problem is puerile for you…hehe…
I don’t think it’s possible because the game minimum resolution is 800X600
It is possible…I can set the resolution on 400×300 via this mod but it looks horrible. If i set the resolution to 640×480 don’t send error appear after the start screen…Strange,no?
I think something may be wrong with the mod, or.. maybe the game in general. I was in the depths headed for the fight with Kirk, Knight of Thorns, while human. The wall of fog appeared as though he were “invading” but i never got a notification, and eventually it faded away entirely. It also seemed as though someone was trying to invade (bonfire wouldn’t light) but never failed or invaded. If this isn’t the mod and just something wrong with the game, someone let me know?
Mmm.. Maybe something was just bugged with my login or something. I just got Kirk to spawn.. though still no sign of a player.
had the same thing, but after checking the wiki it appears that people can invade you “secretly” (didnt mention how to do that) wich means you will get attacked by no warning…
I think that happens when a player is just about to invade you, but fails to actually do so because of connection errors? Not sure, but this happens on the console version.
i play yesterday normal version was very fun.
today apply the patch and do some tweeks, the game start and when GFWL task bar appear and the dark souls msj of autosave appear the game just frozze or stop tottaly. y take off the fix files, and put ati ai to normal and af, keep the same, cant play it :S.
i manage to get to the options and put off aa and motion blur and its still the same, the game crash on the start
Help, the fix does not work! I have tried using dozens of different resolutions suggested in the neogaf thread and in the steam forums. Nothing works, I see no visible change in image quality. I have followed all instructions to the letter. My card is 560 gtx ti. Native res 1280×1024. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for a second post… Just tried it. No crashing, but I am having issues. The game loads, then after the first GFWL message pops up, the screen starts flickering really badly. Whole screen goes blank like ever other frame. Have it set to my monitor’s native resolution of 1080p. Not sure what the issue is, but definitely unplayable. Thought it was the Steam community stuff, so I disabled that. Still no improvement.
I figured it out. Thanks again for the hard work!
Can u tell me how you fixed that ?
Had the same issue. Fixed by setting “filteringOverride” to 0 (its 1 by default) in the DSfix.ini file.
Thanks a lot for the fix!
Can you tell me how you fixed it? I’m having the same problem. Unfortunately, I can’t play it without fullscreen since for some reason windowed mode (even without the mod) starts in a really odd place of the screen.
Can I ask how? I have the same problem.
Same problem. What fixed it for you?
How did you fix that? I’m having the same problem.
Hey could you post up what you did to fix this problem?
How you fixed it? i’m having the same problem…
Hi. Sorry if i sound really dumb, but i cant find my darksouls.exe. I am not familiar with the location Steam installs the games. If anyone can help me that would be great.
Should be in “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA”
Default for steam is
c\programfiles\steam\steamapps\common
Should be in there
thank you so much for the help
Hey man. When my roommate tried this it made everything except the menu disappear. When he removed the files, the game wont even launch now. He even had steam redownload and reinstall the game and it still wont even launch. Help please? D:
I have the same issue as BritFag mentioned: http://gyazo.com/59db329c9fcaff5f7e151e64377e0a45
Any Idea what to do ?
Disable blur and AA in-game.
Can you change the hud to make the xbox buttons PS or PC ones.
Do you mind making a mod to remove the 15fps frame lock? I’m supposed to be getting like 30 fps with my current setup, and since I get a little under 30 I’m getting locked down to 15, which is playable, but the game is extremely unenjoyable. I’m sure if there was some mod that could remove the 15fps lock for people who aren’t getting 30, I would get 25fps (character creation– perfect 30fps, no problems).
Can someone help me? im using a gtx 460, amd athlon x4 @ 3.1ghz, and 4 gb of ram. Im getting just 15-25 fps in this game with lag spikes to 8 when i should be at 30fps 100% of the time while playing this game according to similar setups. Anyone know whats wrong or how to fix this? This is while playing with 1600×900 with no aa or blur. HELP
Hi, Congratulations for your awesome work ^_^
I installed the new Cathalyst AMD/Ati drivers this morning, then I tried your mod but the the gaming screen is small in the up left corner of my monitor. The right side of the monitor is black with only the start menu.
I have: Core i3, Amd 6870
So, I was looking, and I can’t find where to put these files.. It’s probably blaringly obvious, but I’m having trouble finding where the Dark Souls executable is. Can anyone help please?
The executable should be in the Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition/DATA folder.
FPS Fix The fix is to open up the DarkSouls.ini file and manually set your fullscreen resolution and monitor’s framerate there.
The .ini file is located here: C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\NBGI\DarkSouls\DarkSouls.ini
I don’t see that anywhere…
I can’t seem to find appdata under [my user name]. I installed the game on a different drive(e) and i dont have a username folder in there (only meant to hold steam games)
NVM, had to refresh my username folder
Wow.
…and thanks.
Hey man, Thanks a lot for making this. It’s unbelievable the difference it makes. It actually feels like it improved my game as well. (I am on a AMD card)

Hi Durante, I want to thank your for your work, and for this excelent fix. I have one request, THAT MANY PEOPLE AGREE WITH, we need a fix for people that use 16:10 monitors. Because the game was made to be used with 16:9, people that use 16:10 monitors have the letterbox showed (black bars at the top and bottom screen, much like a cinematic. PLEASE.
This is probably doable, but requires a lot of effort. I’d like to first focus on the larger remaining issues, such as the DoF resolution.

I’m currently running the game on Parallels on my Macbook Pro 15″ late 2011. The game was running fine before, but after applying the fix it won’t proceed past the first loading screen (where it should display the Namco Bandai logo I get just a blank white screen). What’s worse is that I’ve tried force quitting the game, but to no avail. Now instead of a desktop all I have is a blank white screen (and according to task manager the game isn’t even running anymore).
Hi, everyone.
I’m optimus laptop user, and as was mentioned before, I changed with hex editor d3d9.dll in “data.exe” into d3fx.dll. And changed the name of d3d9.dll in the root folder. Indeed, optimus works now, I get 30 fps on my gt555m. But suddenly Games for Windows Live won’t run on the game start anymore, and I can not save due to this. :/
Is there anything I can do to get optimus, this mod, and Windows Live work along? Help, please.
Someone please help me. I did everithing, even changed the .ini file under C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\NBGI\DarkSouls\DarkSouls.ini, but it still locked on 15 FPS, any ideas?
For everyone bashing From Software, imagine this for a minute:
You’re the maker of a game that you worked on for the last 2 – 4 years perfecting it, balancing it. You also work on making sure it looks as good as it can while performing as ideally as it can for the system(s) it’s on.
You test and test until you are confident in your game in both visual design, performance, and otherwise. Then you ship your game off. Your game ships and it’s relatively well received.
All of a sudden a huge petition appears on the internet where 80,000 people on a platform you never programmed on before, request your game to be ported onto that platform. It’s daunting, but you care about your fans and would like to make the game for them. But you know it takes time to make it, test it, and ensure the quality is up to par.
Then your publisher (your boss that controls all your money), comes up to you and says. “Hey this is a limited-time interest thing. We need you to get this ported onto that platform ASAP. With additional content too, since people aren’t going to really bite without that. YOU HAVE 6 MONTHS.” Conversation over.
What would you do?
You know it took you 2 – 4 years of consistent testing to make what you have now, and to make sure it performed correctly on the platforms it’s currently on. Now you only have 1/8th – 1/4th of that time to make sure you get it on that platform, make sure that it works, AND ensure it has additional content which ALSO works.
Wouldn’t the best course of action be to release original game in it’s mostly unchanged form?
I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what happened here. They didn’t want to risk the game looking too derivative from their original intention for the amount of time that they needed to test everything.
So they left the renderer as is, and that’s why it looks so much like the original console version. It’s the safest option, which gets PC users the game they asked for along with the new content that is exclusive to them.
When people bash From Software, it kind of pisses me off. Since you can tell they worked really hard on this game, and put themselves out there and took a risk to make the game on this platform.
Plus they’re selling this game with additional content, at a price much lower than it originally sold for. I dunno about you, but I think that’s a steal.
They’re a good company and none of you can doubt that this is a GREAT FREAKING GAME. Honestly, the bashing is unnecessary and unwarranted.
I think Durante is amazing for making this utility and I humbly bow to his work. But I think the bashing of From Software really should stay out of it. We get an amazing game, with awesome new content, at an amazing price.
A game that originally wasn’t going to even come out on this platform. A platform that From Software didn’t even program on before. Why? Because the fans requested it! How many companies out there do you know that have done something like that?
Have a little humility and be thankful, to both Durante and From Software for their contribution. Of course it’s not thankless (you still have to pay for the game). But I’m just saying the bashing doesn’t help anything or anyone.
It’s true, but naive to think that From did it from the good of their own hearts. Namco-Bandai saw dollar signs with all the requests and made them do it as quickly and cheaply as possibel
>you still have to pay for the game
you’re a funny man, ya know that?
Dude, you are totally spot on. Great point.
Thank you thank you soo much for your efforts
Worst fucking port ever made. I have 15fps at Undead Burg doesn’t matter what kind of settings I adjust.. my eyes are bleeding! The mouse sensitivity is also bad, with keyboard and mouse this game is unplayable. But when I tried playing with gamepad my right analog stick is worked inverted so basically I can’t play. Because settings like invert axis or mouse sensitivity not appears in the options menu.
Make sure you edit the dsfix.config Internal rendering resolution. by default it is set at 2560×1440 which is high.
set it to 1280×720 or 1920×1080 whatever you PC can handle. It still looks sharp and you will get 30fps. I had exactly the same problem as you. It works and it looks great
I saw a temporary fix on another site, they suggested setting mouse sensitivity to 0. You’ll have to deal with a slow as shite camera, but at least you won’t have to put up with mouse deceleration.
If you are doing x360ce trying to emulate a 360 Controller try “Options” –> “Hook Mode” instead of “Normal”.
Any way to get this to work on a laptop w/ optimus? on my gt60 (680m and i7) it shoves the game into the top left quarter of the screen and looks/runs terrible. On my desktop though it runs fantastic.
disable ingame AA and motion blur and it should work fine.
hey great mod but I’m trying to play the game on both my laptop and pc and I’m trying to run the game in 800×600 and the game crashes every time I load it up using the mod and yes I turned off AA and motion blur and it still didn’t work so if you could fix that it would be awesome
1024×768 and you will be fine. 800 is below what the game can run at.
it won’t run without the mod i only get about 15 fps with it it crashes
I ♥ you.
That is all.
I love you more than anyone in this fucking world!!!!!!!!!
Is it possible to do this with other games as well? Sleeping Dogs for example?
In theory yes, but almost all other games I know of actually allow you to select your rendering resolution.
Not much but sent ya $5. Now all we need is to figure out why the game suddenly decides to drop to 15fps randomly. I have a gtx 680 so it can’t be not having enough power.
Awesome job dude! Thanks.
PD: I have an issue with a software called “Action!”. It’s like Fraps, you can record gameplays with it. The point is, with fraps I have no issues, I can record but the videos are so huge (30sec@1080p=1GB) and with Action! 30min of uncompressed video @ 1080p are ~30GB, but with Action! the game crashes. Could you test it? I will be really happy and greatful if you can.
Just wanted to say thank you for your hard work. Thanks Durante!
Cheers for trying to sort out the game man, can’t thank you enough. I’ve got to ask though, is there any way to get rid of the fucking letterboxing? It’s basically my only issue now.
Game runs at 5 fps with this version.
Was running just fine on the 0.2 mod yesterday.
Anybody know a fix?
I accidentally posted on the older version, but in case you didn’t see it, I wanted to say THANKS!!! I donated what little I could.
I got antialiasing through supersampling by setting the render res to 2x my 1080p monitor
renderWidth 3840
renderHeight 2160
for 1920×1200 people, use this. but pay attention and see if it’s actually doing something because higher than certain numbers weren’t working for me.
renderWidth 3840
renderHeight 2400
You can also just use multiples of the default 1024×720 which might work better if there’s graphical bugs, like 3x the default would be:
renderWidth 3072
renderHeight 2160
Also, for SLi use these settings in NVIDIA inspector:
SLI Compatibility bits: 0×00400005
NVIDIA Predefined SLi mode: SLI_PREDEFINED_MODE_FORCE_AFR
But DON’T use “forceFullscreen” in DSfix.ini otherwise you get flickering screen, just set fullscreen in-game. the game will start windowed and then switch to fullscreen.
And for MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision-X, or Rivatuner display server use “framebuffer” instead of “viewport” and check “Enabled compatibility with modified Direct3D runtime libraries” in the wrench options button.
I can’t get it to start in window mode. I mean it starts, but the screen turns black with all settings.
Camera sensitivity seems too high for me
+1 blur
also keep mouse locked while in window mode
Your little fix is on steam with link now
Congrats
To anyone who sees this:
I am having trouble finding the folder I put these files into, any help?
Thank you!
any idea why this may be happening: http://i48.tinypic.com/34tcxvc.jpg
would love to get a high resolution fix working
disregard that last question
got it working by turning off AA in game.
huge thanks for the patch
lovin it already
Looks good
Waiting until there is a fully stable fps release
keep up the good work.
Euden
Thanks mate works brilliantly, Bandia Namco should give you a fucking huge donation for your work.
Has anyone figured out a workaround for Optimus yet?
Have you tried lowering the internal rendering resolution in the dsfix.config
Any chance your able to fix the mouse camera movement, or add the ability to bind keys to different mouse buttons? If you can do these things then the game would be playable without the need for a controller.
If not, that’s alright, I love what you’ve done so far.
Since all my current work is done through a modified d3d9.dll I can’t really do anything about the input. Also, changing the executable is out because of GFWL. That leaves injection or another dll override, both of which require a lot of work. I want to finish fixing the graphical issues first.
Hi there, I’d like to thank you for this mod. The game looks so much nicer!
I think someone may already have requested this, but I’d like to get the game running on Fullscreen (Windowed). It would be a great addition <3
Thank you very much!
I’m having a problem getting DSfix to work. I know its working partially because I can toggle the cursor with F9, but if I leave the render width/height in the INI file at default 2560*1440, the game is considerably smaller than my screen. I changed it to 1280*1024 (my monitor’s resolution), it got bigger, but still not properly fullscreen. I changed it to 1024*768, it filled the width of my screen but not the height, and it was pretty pixelated. Strangely, the HUD remained constant throughout all of these changes
I put some screenshots to demonstrate what I mean:

Whoops, solved in a comment before me.
If anyone can’t find that one, the fix is to go to “C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\NBGI\DarkSouls” and turn off antialiasing in the INI file.
Awesome fix by the way!
This is a very strange issue that seems to be happening for a small subset of users. It seems like the viewport is not adjusted correctly. This is hard for me to fix since it doesn’t happen on my system.
how to i change the resolution in the text edit when i put my own resolution which is 1600×900 the game was messed up it was only a tiny box please help :O
Great work, thanks.
Quick question, though. Are you intending to also explore the mouselook situation? At a cursory glance, it seems as though mouse inputs aren’t detected until some arbitrary threshold is reached. However, it seems as though we could utilize a DirectInput wrapper to improve the situation somewhat. Thoughts on feasibility?
Thanks again.
Feasible, but requires an entirely new project so quite laborious in execution. I’ll consider it when/if I completely fix all the visual issues.
Anyone trying this with windows 8 64bit Pro? The game will run, but its pretty much locked in the background without any display (or the ability to show the display). If you remove the DSfix file, it can run perfectly fine.
Thanks.
Thank you. That’s what my parents told me to say when someone did something nice.
thx man!
this works perfectly on my pc!
I’m a little broke right now, but the moment I can I will donate!
Hey man, I really appreciate what you’re doing. I’d give you a hug if I could.
I put the fix but the game’s going to 10 fps, however without the fix going to constant 30 fps that I can do to fix it?
Anyone without a laptop using Optimus experiencing the crash on start-up? I’m running an AMD Phenom and a gtx570, and cannot get the game to load using this. I followed the hex editing fix, and it actually runs, but GFWL doesn’t work (meaning no saving). I only see people complaining of this glitch in relation to having Optimus, so any tips or advice from someone who actually got this working on a desktop would be appreciated.
Hey I have a question.
I got an old Monitor with a resolution of 1024×768.
I tried everything but with and without your fix the game is still cutted off.
Is it possible to get Full Screen without black bars?
I was just wondering when the newer versions come out do I have to remove the previous versions or simply add on to them?
Simply overwrite the old files.
The resolution is perfect. But this keeps happening. If i remove the patch, everything goes back to normal(except the resolution of course)
Help would be appreciated.

Odd, yesterday the mod (all three versions of it) worked just fine, today I’m getting ‘DARKSOULS.exe stopped responding’ when I launch the game on Steam or the game window doesn’t show up at all. Removing the d3d9.dll file helps, but as soon as I put it back it then game doesn’t start again. Any ideas?
I’ve notice that too. Run your task manager and force quit dark souls. The main problem is that GFWL icon should be in your tray(right bottom) make sure quit your GFWL also. Once you did that it should be working for you.
This isn’t working for me. Still got the ‘not responding’ thing going on. Also could you make a cursorlock? I use 2 screens and my mouse keeps going in the other screen, really annoying. Before you ask, i did try Cursorlock from snakebyte studios, But it didn’t work.
This version allows you to turn the cursor off by pressing F9 while in-game.
Thanks for doing this, sent you some money for beer!
you sir have my uttermost respect
I tried running the game with this fix, but once the game starts it shows the HUD, a gray rectangle in the left upper part of the screen(I assume it’s the original resolution) and it just won’t show anything else. The game is working just fine without the fix and even with it, I just can’t see anything other than a black screen with a gray rectangle and HUD over it
Okay I managed to fix this one by turning off in game AA option, no idea why did it do that. I have 580GTX.
I’ve got a 16:10 aspect ratio monitor (1680×1050 native), and this game runs in 16:9 normally. Should I set the resolution to monitor native or to the 16:9 resolution (1680×945, I think). Ideally, I’d like 1:1 between framebuffer and on-screen pixels.
Further, if I wanted to try and get some pseudo-AA effect, could I just set the internal resolution to some integer multiple? Say, 3360×2100?
Speaking of DOF (depth of field), the resolution isn’t an issue for me, the fact that it’s here is.
Would it be possible to have an option to just plainly disable it?
This should be possible. But my first focus will be to fix it, since I actually like the effect.

Thanks
Can anyone help me guys? I’m having a problem with the mod. I’ve followed all the instructions but as soon as I get in game to where you play it. The game only takes up about a quarter of my 1920×1080 monitor which as you can imagine is super frustrating. If anyone knows anything about this PLEASE HELP! I love this game and having this mod makes it sooo much better. I just want it to work properly! haha.
Look one pust higher (mine) and click on the link
its the picture of my problem, is it like yours?
All who have game in a small corner of a game go to
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\NBGI\DarkSouls” and turn off antialiasing in the INI file.
This works
had same issue with AA application override set in Vision Control Center. disabled and was fine.
my monitor’s resolution is 1680×1050. I already adjusted this resolution into the dsfix.ini file and I turned off blur and anti aliasing. however, in full screen mode the resolution does not quite seem to be 1680×1050 and it is quite pixely. there are huge black bars at the top and the bottom of the screen, as if in a movie.
If I switch to windowed mode the bars disappear and then the resolution really seems to be 1680×1050 since it is not pixely anymore and the quality is better. in windowed mode the screen is even bigger than in fullscreen mode because in latter case black bars minimize the game screen.
however it is quite annoying if you play in windowed mode because you can see windows partly.
Can somebody help with this issue? How can i make the black bars disappear and have a “real” full-screen mode or at least minimize them.
You can try 1440 X 900. It seems like an odd aspect ratio causing the pixels to stretch (or squash) while in full screen.
You might have better results with a 16×9 ratio, like 1600×900. Might still get bars though but they shouldn’t be very big.
thanks for the reply but it didn’t help. no matter if I adjust the resolution in the .ini file or in ingame menu the black bars do not disappear.
I made another discovery: if I force full-screen mode via the .ini file and set a resolution of 1680×1050 the black bars disappear. However my monitor then starts flickering and the frame rate drops. It is not playable anymore.
It seems as if other persons have the same problems with their monitors flickering (see above).
Can anybody help us out? Is this problem linked to my graphic card? I have got a ati radeon hd 6850
Dang. Sorry man, I have an ATI HD 5850, no issues at all. Monitor is a 16×9 widescreen though so that ratio works perfectly for me. It really might be your monitor – non-native resolution for a game like this? Just guessing, sorry I couldn’t help.
Loving this fix. While it varies from player to player, hopefully you might be able to address the FPS drops you (might just be me) get when an enemy breathes fire or such as when the Moon Butterfly thing uses its particle attacks. Using 2 GTX 645′s and fps was solid, until I came across situations mentioned above.
Gah, meant 465′s lol. Sorry.
I don’t think I can do much about that, it’s probably framebuffer bandwidth limited in those cases. The only options are to either lower the resolution or get a faster GPU.
Eh, really? Would’ve thought having two of these things running would be okay. Is when I’m playing Crysis. Guess that’s what happens when it comes to console ports.
Cheers.

Do you have a fix that fixes the mouse cursor only? This fix fucks my game up and I’m Not really interest in better resolution fix
You can set the internal resolution to 1024×720 in the ini, disable all the other overrides and you’ll end up with just the mouse fix.
That didnt work at all Still strange blanks lines and black screen during game play and still cant use AA or Blur
I don’t think you quite realize how appreciated this is. The graphics were one thing (not really important to me but hey, I’m an early 90′s gamer – gameplay is all that’s important to me besides music and story), but disabling the mouse cursor was one of the best things you could have done in this version. Cheers, cheers, and more cheers for you mate! You’ve done an entire community proud with this – it feels like a completely different game now with those two (res and cursor) fixes alone. Motion Blur capability would make this 200% (since it’s already 100% perfect).
I use AMD and I have no problems at all, even in Blight Town – though I haven’t gotten that far into Blight Town. Been busy going back to areas to kill bosses like the Stray Demon and so forth. But so far I have only gotten very minimal to the point of being trivial slowdowns, and only in areas with tons of particles.
This has become my new favorite game now with your patch.
Thanks again.
There was one more suggestion I wanted to make (other than motion blur) that I forgot to add to my last post.
It would be amazing if you could somehow disable the (negative) mouse acceleration also. It is pretty horrible, makes it hard to keep the ‘lock on’ from switching targets mid attack. Not sure if it’s possible but I thought I’d throw it out there.
You are a godsend! Thank you so much for this mod (:
Been running Dark Souls at solid 30 FPS all through the game even blighttown. thats right never dipped! here and there went up to 30.5 fps max. Game looks great with durante awesome fix and runs smooth, fast and responsive at 30fps don’t know why people want to raise the fps. My CPU is at mere 14 -16% the whole time and my GPU is basically snoozing at 28% usage 53C temp. My PC specs are not even any big deal.
Just rang the second bell now off to anor londo.
CPU: i7-2600k @ 4.8Ghz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 570
Storage: SSD 256 + 3TB HDD

im in the lava area and tried this out… lags like a b***
newer had these kind of lags without this
Do you know if anyone, you or anyone else will be making a 1st person view mode mod? some of the coolest games ive ever played were kings field 1/2/3, but the reason for that was the immersion and in 3rd person it just doesnt bring it like the earlier ascii games did.
side note! if anyone doesnt know, ascii made kings field 1 & 2 & 3? a sorta kinda port from japan games called, i think kings crown? im not sure about all of that but if you want a really submersive game experience look those up. really rare, for the ps1 and 2.. but you can find ‘kings field: sword of moonlight’ and someone made a really cool mod for the pc thats an entire game like the early days of Dark Souls and you can see what it’s all about.
kings field: sword of moonlight google and its for the pc
