  1. I just downloaded the game from Steam and tried to adjust the resolution, but now the screen has gone black. The game is running though, as I can hear myself hitting the wall with my broken weapon. I downloaded the patch, but I’m not too sure where to drop the files, as the Dark Souls folder I dropped them in doesn’t have a visible DarkSouls.exe. Help?

  2. For any Win8 users experiencing crashing, try running the game in compatibility mode for Win7.

  3. for me things in the distance look pixelated like in lower resolution tham berfore ot has no filtering (im not sure) but everything else look awesome

    • They are not lower resolution than before, just relatively lower compared to the increased resolution. I’m working on it.

  4. Will I need this alongside the Internal Rendering Resolution Fix?

Thanks for the answer and great work
I’ll come back to donate when I have money again :D

  5. Hey, first of all thanks a lot for making this fix, it’s awesome!

I was wondering however whether forcing certain options such AA or AF via the ATI Catalyst control center works on the game or not and whether it should or shouldn’t be used in conjunction with the DSfix?

  6. Hey guys I downloaded the game from steam but I find a hard time finding the dark souls.exe file. Can someone explain where it’s located?

  7. Hi.
In previous version of your fix, game was very fast, but now with this version is slow in some action (when I fight etc.). I think is because (forces 16xAF on everything”, and my graphic card is not that good to handle this.
So will you give us fix with smaller xAF?

And thx for great job man.

  8. Thanks for taking the time to make this mod. I am not sure what the problem is for me, but as soon as I start the game it crashes immediately. I have AA turned off and blur, I’ve tried setting multiple resolutions in the ini. I am not sure what’s wrong. Any ideas?

    • I am running a GTX 580 and an i7. I turned off my forced AA in nvidia control panel also just in case that was messing with your injection. Also tried turning off Steam community as one poster did….no results yet. It seems there are at least 2 other posters with the same problem I have.

      • I used jimhorton’s post’s solution of hex editing the d3d9.dll code and it works fine now.

        • Except windows live no longer works so I can’t use the online portion of the game. …Really need an edit post feature.

  9. So,that happens when i try to change the resolution to 640×480.

    Thanks!

  10. Causing executable to crash upon startup or file load.

    i7 930
    Win 7 x64

    Thanks,

  12. The game crashed on startup when I use your DSfix. I have disabled AA and motion blur in game. Launches fine when i delete the DSfix files. Any solution for this?

  13. I was just about to post that I’m having FPS drops after this version and you’re already working on another one. Why didn’t FROM hire you already?

    Keep it up!

  14. For me version 0.2 crashes when I click new game or load game, 0.1 works fine

  15. When I start the game a white screen appears and an error message appears saying “Darks Souls executable has stopped working”. This error doesn’t appear when I remove the files. I have turned off both the AF and blur in game.

  16. You are a fucking legend for fixing this problem. Namco and From Software should be ashamed the game was released in this state.

  17. The remaining “blur” people are seeing is the depth of field effect. I would rather this not be removed, or if you must please make it optional, thank you.

    • The current plan is not to remove the DoF, but fix it. The problem is that it’s still rendered at the original res, regardless of selected rendering res, and is thus too blurry.

However, fixing this is proving more difficult than I originally expected.

  18. now the game crashes if minimized thus i can’t use nomousy to disable floating mouse cursor while playing fullscreen. anyway i’m going to donate as soon as i’ll be able to (unless fromsoftware is going to fix the issue sooner ;)

  19. I’m no computer expert but what i can say is that the optimus problem has to do with d3d9.dll whereby only the integrated graph. are used, not the nvidia. Enb graphical enhancements also utilize this (Skyrim, etc.). The only way I can get these to work with optimus is to use and enb with an ‘INJECTOR’. Durante, would it be possible/doable to make some kind of injector out of this?

    • This is what someone on the nexus forums posted for skyrim enb problems. Anybody have the experience to try it?
“Tired of Post Process Injectors like FXAA or ENB not recognizing your Nvidia card on your Optimus laptop? There is in fact an easy (kinda) fix for it.

      1. Open TESV.exe in your game directory with a Hex editor (e.g. Winhex, Ultraedit).
      2. Use the search ASCII option to find d3d9.dll, you will get TWO results.
      3. Change both instances of d3d9.dll to something different (for example d3fx.dll). Save.
      4. Rename d3d9.dll in your game directory to match the ones you remamed in TESV.exe

Provided you have selected the preferred graphic processor the programs in your Nvidia control panel, the game will now be using your Nvidia card to render the post process injectors. Enjoy the sceneries!”

  20. Going a little off topic can anyone work out if it is easy to access the images for buttons? I use a dualshock controller on PC so it would be nice to change the 360 button icons to PS3 ones

  21. Got a little problem with your fixes. My laptop has integrated graphics chip and an nvidia 635m. without the fix it uses the 635m as the default and runs without any problem with 50% load on the gpu. With the fix it just refuses to use the nvidia, the gpu load stays at 0%. Set it the nvidia control panel to use only the 635m, but no luck :/

    • This is a known Optimus issue. Sadly I don’t have an Optimus device to test on, so this may be hard to fix :/

      • I hope he does too, I got a 560m in my laptop. This is the only thing stopping us laptop users to getting a beautiful looking game like we should of gotten from the start!

  22. My game seems to crash on launch with this fix. I did try disabling steam community, no change.

  23. Hello fellow Coder,

Thanks for the fix. Looks awesome. How about the 30 fps limit. Any chance to remove that aswell? I mean the fix is totally fine right now but I have extra ressources and would like to ease my eyes a bit. 30 fps is a bit rough for games.

    • Animation and game logic is tied to framerate — unlocking to 60 would mean everything happens twice as fast, and would likely get you kicked from GFWL

  24. Hi dude!Great job here!
But i have a problem.I have a low-end pc, but all the games stil run fine on 800×600 mode.
Dark souls don’t.I tried to set resolution to 640×480 but it gives “don’t send” error.Works fine if i set the resolution(froms DSfix) at 400×300,but it looks horrible.
    Can you help me please?
Thanks in advance and great job again!

  25. very nice it works good on my AMD Phenom X6 1055T and HD7970 but please make AA work i can see the pixels :(( btw little bit slow on some Actions (Fights) but i think its the game 30fps limit…

  27. Hi, when i put those 2 files (the fix) in the game folder i cant run the game, i click twice on all the icons and nothing happens, but when i remove the 2 files it works fine(with shitty graphics :D) looks like nobody experiencing my problem. My video card is Radeon HD 6770.If somebody help me i will apreciate it

    • Try jimhorton’s solution where you hex edit the data.exe file. I had the same issue as you and it worked.

  28. Hi, when I launch the game I get a white screen which hangs. I remove the fix and it all works fine. Any ideas? (I have disabled in game AA and BLur and then tried the fix again, with the same results)

    SLi 4870s

  29. Also I don’t want to raise the stakes too high but performance might improve significantly if you could remove the distance-blur. These are typical effects that are rendered by easily by the xbox360 but cause quite some havoc in pc-versions. But you probably already know this.

  30. Hi, I got an nvidia 660m and i cantget the game working properly when the resolution is at fullhd … it should work finei can run any game at max speed. Any way to fix this? It’s weird…. it runs perfectly without the fix otherwise

    • My 555m too. 30 FPS without, and I know exactly why. The d3d9.dll causes the DirectX to use my integrated intel card instead of my nvidia card. Same issue with Skyrim and the d3d9.dll for enb. Sucks for us laptop users, as the framerate will plummet if we used our intel cards.

      • So are we shit outta luck then? I mean is there no way around this so we can still use this mod but without using the intel card?

  31. Fps drop down to 15 constantly when I play at native 1920*1080 and other resolutions using this DSfix0.1 and 0.2. Could it be less demand for the next release? My vga is Nvidia 650M. Thanks

    • guess we got a similar problem… i am guessing its a driver issue since 660m and 650m are powerful enough to run this…

  32. Hey man, first off, great work, exactly what I was looking for, however I think that the forced 16x AF lowers performance for me (and it might as well for others), if it´s not too much of a hassle; could you post a second version without the forced 16x AF so I could check whether or not this might lead to a better performance. Thanks in advance, keep up the good work.

  33. If you can do ANYTHING for the camera, you’ll save this game man. The work you’ve already done is amazing. If you can fix their shitty mouse camera controls. You would have done more work than their whole team of devs could have done in 4 months.

    • This game was made to be played on console, so use your xbox controller or buy one. The controls are really well done, for a game pad. I haven’t tried playing with a mouse/keyboard but I can imagine it being really clunky.

      • I only had one problem with the mouse controls.
That my mouse went over to my second monitor and alt-tabed the game.
The controls were a bit clunky, but not so much of a problem.

  34. Thank you so much for your efforts. I was one of the people who could have settled with what fromsoft already shipped out but this fix made my experience with Dark Souls MUCH more enjoyable. Heavily contemplating on donating to you every time you make a new iteration of this fix. You’re doing all parties involved an incredible favour :)

  35. This version decreases performance by a lot. I was rendering at 3840×2160 for downscaling purposes, which ran fine on a GTX 480. Even with forced 16xAF, but this version made it quite a slideshow. Not sure if you can fix it, but it would be nice.

  36. I’m having issues with the game running at 16-20 fps with 0.2 version. First worked fine :/

My .ini renderWidth 1920 renderHeight 1080 logLevel 0

My specs Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83ghz, 8 gb RAM, W7 64bits and Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT

  37. For a lower end computer like mine, this fix is wonderful, since I can play it at a lower resolution. Hats off to you, good sir.

  39. Anyone know why this causes my game to crash on launch? The error message says…

    ” Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: DATA.exe
    Application Version: 1.0.0.1
    Application Timestamp: 50090197
    Fault Module Name: GameOverlayRenderer.dll
    Fault Module Version: 1.48.51.6″

    • Never mind. Seems steam overlay was crashing. Disabling community appears to have fixed it.

  40. love the mod …but the 16xAF slows down my computer a bit.how can i change only the resolution?

    • NeV3rKilL, I have Nvidia GTX 465 in SLI and I had the same problem, I had to turn off Anti-Aliasing in the options before entering. I still get that problem once in a while when I tab out (I play full screen mode) and then tab back in but as soon as I move my char it fixes itself.
