DSfix 0.5

This is a maintenance release, and adds a few mouse-related features people were asking for.

  • Mouse cursor toggling with F9 should now be less finicky
  • You can toggle whether the mouse is allowed to leave the window with F10
(this is useful in windowed mode or in fullscreen with multiple monitors)
  • Both of these settings can also be set in the .ini
  • The fix introduced in version 0.2 for cut-off text/buttons has been reworked to be much less invasive — if you have seen any degradation in performance or functionality from 0.1 to 0.2 this should fix it (I haven’t seen any changes)

This will probably be the last version for a little while, I have to go to work tomorrow ;)

Consider donating if you like the mod.

  1. need some help, this patch from 0.4 used to work but now every time i add this fix to the game directory, it refuses to launch the game it just crashes. Using the steam version if that helps.

  2. man hats down for you on a great job and please, please, please keep it up. you are the only hope of making this game amazing and playable as it was supposed to be. I hope that you will be appreciated for the remarkable effort and maybe pick up your MODs as an official patch for the game.

    Kudos

  3. Thanks for answer, going buy silence ;) In version x-box 360 and PS3 was many disconnect in coop and PvP, freez and etc. How are affairs in PC? There is progress in the optimization of network games?

  4. Hello! I’m from Russia :) Sorry for my bad English. I’m a haw question, am surfing many forum, but i not understand, this fix support GFWL? I want buy license, but not sure support fix or not. Without fix playing in this game on PC, suicide :)

  5. Hello! I have 1680×1050 my monitor screen resolution. I would like remove a top and bottom black stripes on image in game. How can I do this?

  6. Oddly I broke the barrier of 30fps reaching 34fps when i use setfsb to make overclock in my cpu.

  7. new Nvidia beta drivers released a short while ago (version 306.02)
has anyone tried it w/ DS yet with DSfix?

  8. Sorry for my terrible English.

I have one idea and one problem.

    The idea:
I have a gaming mouse. It has additional buttons. But in the game options is not possible to specify the mouse to control your character.
It would be cool if the opportunity was.

    The problem:
Does not change the mouse sensitivity. Regardless of the game, I change it in the settings or windose.

Maybe it is because of the very mouse?
    mouse – Microsoft SideWinder X8

    • using exactly same mouse and changing ingame settings and changing DPI through Windows\MS Device Center both change the sensitivity ingame for me. my sidewinder’s DPI-on-the-fly settings are at 1) 3000, 2) 1500, 3) 500. big difference in mouse speed from 3000 to 500. still does not correct the slight jumpiness to camera control though. sidewinder x8 works great with the game in every aspect EXCEPT the camera being too jumpy while moving character. which means until they fix the problem a gamepad is about the only comfortable option. 360 pad emulator works great through my saitek p990.

  9. durante, if you read this i think you should know that your patch makes the DATA.exe for the game run on integrated graphics automatically. for those still having performance issues with NVIDIA cards, try this

“I run it fine on a 550M and an I7 intel at 30fps (fraps tells me so) at the resolution 1900 by 1080. I have motion blur and antialiasing off.

I had issues, this worked for me.

Nvidia control panel option were changed for both the .exe’s found in dark souls. I don’t know if it matters for both. This is what I changed.

Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration [Single Display performance mode]
    Power management [Prefer maximum performance]
    Texture filtering-Anisotropic sample opti…. [On]
    Texture filtering- quality [Performance]
    Trilinear optimisation [On]

I understand some of the options might not need to be changed, but this is what I run with and I get 30fps when ever I look at the counter, played up to the gargoyles on the roof boss and no slow down. Really hope this helps!” – Beat14, steam user forums.

  10. I can NOT get this to work, i get a black rectangle with a smaller gray rectangle in it and no graphics. If i remove it it goes back to normal and works fine. I seem to be doing something wrong? I tried two different drivers.
    NVIDIA GTX 580
    Intel i7 3700k
    win7 x64.

    • Same problem for me:
      GTX570 HD (drivers 301.42)
      Core i7 2600k

The initial menu is ok, as soon as the game starts I get the rectangle.

  11. Awesome work. Frankly, I don’t know why there are so many people complaining about frame rate drops and lag. I play the game at 1920×1080 and even with DoF set at 2160 the game is still smooth – I have Dark Souls on my ps3 too and I know what are frame rate drops – I had a couple of very slight drops in Blightown with the above settings but nothing like on the ps3 version. My pc isn’t “ultra high end” – I have a Calibre x265 video card, a Core 2 Duo cpu at 3,06GHZ and 2GB of RAM and everything runs smooth and better than on my ps3 with a lot better graphics – I’ve passed a good chunk of the game and tested its performance with and without the fix and compared it to the ps3 version in several locations. I tried playing with the mouse for a couple of minutes though and it seemed kinda choppy – I guess there is some issue with the mouse acceleration in the game and that’s what some people may perceive as frame rate drops but I don’t know for sure as I play with a wireless xbox controller and I have no issues – finally good graphics for that awesome game. With that fix I just can’t call the game a bad port anymore – expect a donation later today, Durante!

  12. Hiya Durante,
I noticed a lot of people having issues with their AMD cards in regards to the 2d clocks kicking in, here’s a guide to fixing it.

    1. Open CCC
    2. Enable AMD overdrive in the Gaming tab
    3. Create a preset and name it ‘noPowerplay’ or whatever you wish
    4. Open explorer, browse to C:\Users\User name\appdata\local\ati\ACE\profiles – Make sure view hidden files/folders is enabled in folder options
    5. Open up the file with notepad or something
    6. Scroll all the way down to the bottom or search for ‘Overdrive5′
    7. Make sure Overdrive is enabled with this preset by looking at OverclockEnabledProperty, if it’s set to false, change it to true. Otherwise Don’t worry.
    8. Go down to ‘ClockCoreTarget’, and adjust the Want_0 and Want_1 values to whatever Want_2 is.
    9. Do the same for ‘MemoryCoreTarget’ and ‘CoreVoltageTarget’
    10. Save the file, before loading up darksouls (or any other game that moves to 2d clocks) right click on CCC in the system tray, hit Invoke Preset and choose the preset.

These are the values for my unlocked 6950 and they will be different depending on the card.

If you’re having trouble finding the values in steps 6-9 here’s an image. http://i.imgur.com/tj5gX.jpg

If you want to swap between powerplay and this fixed mode, I’d recommend creating another preset before the entire process and naming it ‘Standard’ or something.

  14. I think you accidentaly broke something in 0.5.

In previous versions I’ve been able to get solid 30 fps at 1600×900 on a E8400 (oc’d to 4k) and a 8800 gtx. Even 1920×1080 and dofOverrideResolution 540 works for most areas. But with 0.5 it drops to 15 fps practically everywhere, the only exception being tiny rooms with little going on in them.

  15. Hey, just wanted to report that Lucid Virtu MVP doesn’t work with the DSfix either. I guess it’s like the Optimus issue, right?

  16. Absolutely love this fix, been checking online from work everyday to see if there’s an update.

By the way, I know the frame rate is going to be locked at 30fps, but is there a way to stabilize the frames to 30? Even with a beast machine the frames will drop randomly in certain areas. Even playing with consistent 30 FPS would really one up the console version.

  17. ***BUG*** When I applied 0.5 DSFix my GameCompanion 1.3 application no longer allows Fake Fullscreen to work. (This is where I run windowed mode without the Windows borders)

  18. Not sure if my post was erased? If I could please get a little help, it would be greatly appreciated!

When I apply this patch, when I load my game the game screen shrinks the image to a 1/4 of my screen but the icons remain at the corners, so im not sure what is causing this. Or am I missing something in the options?

I can send a pic to show what the screen looks like if needed. Please help. The game is pretty much unplayable without this patch because of the horrible eye strain from the blurriness. Thank you!

  19. Thank You Boy!I’m Braziliam and I want to tell that you are big man! Thanks for improving the great game for free.

  20. I have a computer with a Nvidia GTX 560 Ti. The game is fluid ad look great thank to your mod.

    You have my gratitude sir!

  21. Just wanted to thank you for your effort, it’s pretty awesome to be able to play Dark Souls at full res.

I hope From Software takes note of your work and sees the light.

  22. Hey thanks for your Effort!
A Question! Is it possible to allow FXAA Injection tools. It uses d3d9.dll. Could you add FXAA support to your D3D9.dll?

  23. Great work man.But i have a problem. When i apply the mod,the fps gets very low.Without the mod the game runs good enough for a good gameplay. But i hate the mouse cursor all over the screen…So i was wondering if you could upload a fix only for the mouse please, and not for the resolution because i have no problem with the current resolution.Could you do that please please,i really like this game.Thank you in advance

    • Just set the .ini to this:
      renderWidth 1024
      renderHeight 720
      filteringOverride 0
      dofOverrideResolution 0
      disableDofScaling 0
      disableCursor 1

This will enable only the cursor fix!

  24. Hey the creator, remember to go v1.0 when everything are updated and fixed, will be waiting~ <3

  25. In all future updates could you add a feature that breaks the game for anyone using the Dark Souls Trainer?

I figure since From and Windows won’t do shit, and steam can’t do shit, you should be the one to save the game from hackers.

Are there heroes left in man?

  26. Does anyone even read? i said i was running it without a mod and still 15 fps,if they don’t release patch i’l never support them this is unforgiving! i get it they are new at this, but that doesn’t justify laziness and not releasing patch.

    • Support who? This person isn’t the person who made the game. Your framerate issues on vanilla isn’t his problem.
Nonetheless, try providing some information about your system. Post your PC specifications, what graphics card you are using, processor, and what brand harddrive (hard-drives with lower speeds (such as the WD Green HD) have fps issues stemming from it) etc.
At least this way someone might be able to tell you if it’s a conflict, or if your computer sucks.

  27. First let me say thank you man.Performance wise, i think it is a lot better than 0.4,less random framedrops(running on a core2duo with ati 4850 @1080p).Like you said it before, the framedrops are a game’s problem, where the game loads an entire area all at once. This issue can be mitigated by walking instead of running(it sucks i know)

  28. I’m trying to run this on a laptop with Nvidia GT 555m which is quite capable of running games like Crysis, Battlefield 3, Skyrim etc on high settings yet I get huge fps drop from this dll. my max screen resolution can be 1366×768. Could anyone suggest the best resolution for my screen to see if I can boost the fps?

    • I don’t think the mod working for anyone with an optimus setup (ie nvidia cards in laptops). When I run it with the mod my laptop runs it with the intel graphics, which cannot handle the res or dof upgrades. Without the mod my laptop runs it with the gt540m.

    • You cannot boost the fps since the fix doesn’t work with Nvidia Optimus. The fix uses at the moment the iGPU only.

    • That’s probably because of the Optimus issue. For now, you should avoid using DSfix, sorry!

  29. Guys i’m having problems with frame rate, its always 15 no matter what i do i tried on vanilla it was 15 with this mod still 15,please help i cant play it with 15 fps its killing me literally :( i was reading on neogaf that if you have 120 Hz monitor you can have this issue, but i have 60 Hz (i know it sucks) anyone ?

  30. Whats the lowest resolution possible for 16:10 monitor? everything i put below 1024×768 it crashes

  32. The messages/tips don’t show on the ground. (thus you can’t summon signs…) But that’s my only problem with it.

Thank you for this fix tho. :)

  33. I have 0.4 fix installed. I’m running an i7-2400K at factory clock, BFG 8800GTS 512MB card factory clock, and 8 GB of RAM on windows 7. Running at 1920×1080 resolution in Durante’s fix file, and in game it is turned to 1920×1080 32bit. Everything runs great except for a few areas (bonfires or lots of particle effects) where the FPS dips but I have never seen it drop below 15fps so I really think, as other’s have said, it has more to do with the game port than with the system. My noteworthy NVIDIA control panel settings are set to High Perfomance, FXAA disabled, AA disabled and AF disabled, Triple Buffering enabled. I was getting this weird blur line or jitter across my screen but found that enabling NVIDIA’s v-sync option got rid of that. If I try to turn up the resolution in the fix to be above my native then my game starts to bog down which, in this scenario, is due to my GPU becoming dated. IMO there isn’t much need to go higher than my native as the game looks absolutely amazing!!!!

I think some people are just wayyy too worried about keeping the FPS at exactly 30FPS. Honsetly, in most areas I would hardly notice the FPS dip if FRAPS wasn’t on. My suggestion would be get it so FPS shows 30 most of time and that the game looks crisp, then shut off FRAPs and just enjoy the game.

  34. Why I can not record my gameplay with Mirillis Action when I’m using this fix? :( Anyway, awesome job man and thank you so much.

  35. I hope you keep working on the mod if work allows, because I’m still having occasional fps drops to 15 even if I set all the settings and resolution to default.

  37. I also wanted to say THANK YOU! Your work made the game really look beautiful. With respect to the FROM Software bashing so popular today I also want to say thanks to FROM for porting one of the best games ever to the PC. I think despite of all the flaws a community initiated and low financed PC port had on release, this game – with your patch – is in the end a great contribution to PC gaming. Keep up the good work which made us all enjoy Dark Souls on the PC platform.
