  1. im in the lava area and tried this out… lags like a b***
newer had these kind of lags without this

  2. Been running Dark Souls at solid 30 FPS all through the game even blighttown. thats right never dipped! here and there went up to 30.5 fps max. Game looks great with durante awesome fix and runs smooth, fast and responsive at 30fps don’t know why people want to raise the fps. My CPU is at mere 14 -16% the whole time and my GPU is basically snoozing at 28% usage 53C temp. My PC specs are not even any big deal.
Just rang the second bell now off to anor londo.

    CPU: i7-2600k @ 4.8Ghz
    GPU: Nvidia GTX 570
    Storage: SSD 256 + 3TB HDD
    RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance O’Ced @ 1872
    AsRock Extreme4 gen3
    Cooling: Liquid + Air @ 25% rpm

  3. There was one more suggestion I wanted to make (other than motion blur) that I forgot to add to my last post.

It would be amazing if you could somehow disable the (negative) mouse acceleration also. It is pretty horrible, makes it hard to keep the ‘lock on’ from switching targets mid attack. Not sure if it’s possible but I thought I’d throw it out there.

  4. I don’t think you quite realize how appreciated this is. The graphics were one thing (not really important to me but hey, I’m an early 90′s gamer – gameplay is all that’s important to me besides music and story), but disabling the mouse cursor was one of the best things you could have done in this version. Cheers, cheers, and more cheers for you mate! You’ve done an entire community proud with this – it feels like a completely different game now with those two (res and cursor) fixes alone. Motion Blur capability would make this 200% (since it’s already 100% perfect).

I use AMD and I have no problems at all, even in Blight Town – though I haven’t gotten that far into Blight Town. Been busy going back to areas to kill bosses like the Stray Demon and so forth. But so far I have only gotten very minimal to the point of being trivial slowdowns, and only in areas with tons of particles.

This has become my new favorite game now with your patch.

    Thanks again.

  5. Do you have a fix that fixes the mouse cursor only? This fix fucks my game up and I’m Not really interest in better resolution fix

    • You can set the internal resolution to 1024×720 in the ini, disable all the other overrides and you’ll end up with just the mouse fix.

      • That didnt work at all Still strange blanks lines and black screen during game play and still cant use AA or Blur

  7. Loving this fix. While it varies from player to player, hopefully you might be able to address the FPS drops you (might just be me) get when an enemy breathes fire or such as when the Moon Butterfly thing uses its particle attacks. Using 2 GTX 645′s and fps was solid, until I came across situations mentioned above.

    • I don’t think I can do much about that, it’s probably framebuffer bandwidth limited in those cases. The only options are to either lower the resolution or get a faster GPU.

      • Eh, really? Would’ve thought having two of these things running would be okay. Is when I’m playing Crysis. Guess that’s what happens when it comes to console ports.

        Cheers.

  8. my monitor’s resolution is 1680×1050. I already adjusted this resolution into the dsfix.ini file and I turned off blur and anti aliasing. however, in full screen mode the resolution does not quite seem to be 1680×1050 and it is quite pixely. there are huge black bars at the top and the bottom of the screen, as if in a movie.
If I switch to windowed mode the bars disappear and then the resolution really seems to be 1680×1050 since it is not pixely anymore and the quality is better. in windowed mode the screen is even bigger than in fullscreen mode because in latter case black bars minimize the game screen.
however it is quite annoying if you play in windowed mode because you can see windows partly.
Can somebody help with this issue? How can i make the black bars disappear and have a “real” full-screen mode or at least minimize them.

    • You can try 1440 X 900. It seems like an odd aspect ratio causing the pixels to stretch (or squash) while in full screen.

You might have better results with a 16×9 ratio, like 1600×900. Might still get bars though but they shouldn’t be very big.

      • thanks for the reply but it didn’t help. no matter if I adjust the resolution in the .ini file or in ingame menu the black bars do not disappear.
I made another discovery: if I force full-screen mode via the .ini file and set a resolution of 1680×1050 the black bars disappear. However my monitor then starts flickering and the frame rate drops. It is not playable anymore.
It seems as if other persons have the same problems with their monitors flickering (see above).
Can anybody help us out? Is this problem linked to my graphic card? I have got a ati radeon hd 6850

        • Dang. Sorry man, I have an ATI HD 5850, no issues at all. Monitor is a 16×9 widescreen though so that ratio works perfectly for me. It really might be your monitor – non-native resolution for a game like this? Just guessing, sorry I couldn’t help.

  9. All who have game in a small corner of a game go to

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\NBGI\DarkSouls” and turn off antialiasing in the INI file.

    This works :)

    • had same issue with AA application override set in Vision Control Center. disabled and was fine.

  10. Can anyone help me guys? I’m having a problem with the mod. I’ve followed all the instructions but as soon as I get in game to where you play it. The game only takes up about a quarter of my 1920×1080 monitor which as you can imagine is super frustrating. If anyone knows anything about this PLEASE HELP! I love this game and having this mod makes it sooo much better. I just want it to work properly! haha.

    • Look one pust higher (mine) and click on the link
its the picture of my problem, is it like yours?

  12. Speaking of DOF (depth of field), the resolution isn’t an issue for me, the fact that it’s here is.
Would it be possible to have an option to just plainly disable it?

    • This should be possible. But my first focus will be to fix it, since I actually like the effect.

  13. I’ve got a 16:10 aspect ratio monitor (1680×1050 native), and this game runs in 16:9 normally. Should I set the resolution to monitor native or to the 16:9 resolution (1680×945, I think). Ideally, I’d like 1:1 between framebuffer and on-screen pixels.

Further, if I wanted to try and get some pseudo-AA effect, could I just set the internal resolution to some integer multiple? Say, 3360×2100?

  14. I tried running the game with this fix, but once the game starts it shows the HUD, a gray rectangle in the left upper part of the screen(I assume it’s the original resolution) and it just won’t show anything else. The game is working just fine without the fix and even with it, I just can’t see anything other than a black screen with a gray rectangle and HUD over it

    • Okay I managed to fix this one by turning off in game AA option, no idea why did it do that. I have 580GTX.

  15. Odd, yesterday the mod (all three versions of it) worked just fine, today I’m getting ‘DARKSOULS.exe stopped responding’ when I launch the game on Steam or the game window doesn’t show up at all. Removing the d3d9.dll file helps, but as soon as I put it back it then game doesn’t start again. Any ideas?

    • I’ve notice that too. Run your task manager and force quit dark souls. The main problem is that GFWL icon should be in your tray(right bottom) make sure quit your GFWL also. Once you did that it should be working for you.

      • This isn’t working for me. Still got the ‘not responding’ thing going on. Also could you make a cursorlock? I use 2 screens and my mouse keeps going in the other screen, really annoying. Before you ask, i did try Cursorlock from snakebyte studios, But it didn’t work.

  16. I was just wondering when the newer versions come out do I have to remove the previous versions or simply add on to them?

  17. Hey I have a question.
I got an old Monitor with a resolution of 1024×768.
I tried everything but with and without your fix the game is still cutted off.
Is it possible to get Full Screen without black bars?

  18. Anyone without a laptop using Optimus experiencing the crash on start-up? I’m running an AMD Phenom and a gtx570, and cannot get the game to load using this. I followed the hex editing fix, and it actually runs, but GFWL doesn’t work (meaning no saving). I only see people complaining of this glitch in relation to having Optimus, so any tips or advice from someone who actually got this working on a desktop would be appreciated.

  19. I put the fix but the game’s going to 10 fps, however without the fix going to constant 30 fps that I can do to fix it?

  20. Thank you. That’s what my parents told me to say when someone did something nice.

  21. Anyone trying this with windows 8 64bit Pro? The game will run, but its pretty much locked in the background without any display (or the ability to show the display). If you remove the DSfix file, it can run perfectly fine.

    Thanks.

  22. Great work, thanks.

Quick question, though. Are you intending to also explore the mouselook situation? At a cursory glance, it seems as though mouse inputs aren’t detected until some arbitrary threshold is reached. However, it seems as though we could utilize a DirectInput wrapper to improve the situation somewhat. Thoughts on feasibility?

    Thanks again.

    • Feasible, but requires an entirely new project so quite laborious in execution. I’ll consider it when/if I completely fix all the visual issues.

  23. how to i change the resolution in the text edit when i put my own resolution which is 1600×900 the game was messed up it was only a tiny box please help :O

  24. I’m having a problem getting DSfix to work. I know its working partially because I can toggle the cursor with F9, but if I leave the render width/height in the INI file at default 2560*1440, the game is considerably smaller than my screen. I changed it to 1280*1024 (my monitor’s resolution), it got bigger, but still not properly fullscreen. I changed it to 1024*768, it filled the width of my screen but not the height, and it was pretty pixelated. Strangely, the HUD remained constant throughout all of these changes

I put some screenshots to demonstrate what I mean:

    • Whoops, solved in a comment before me.

If anyone can’t find that one, the fix is to go to “C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\NBGI\DarkSouls” and turn off antialiasing in the INI file.

      Awesome fix by the way!

    • This is a very strange issue that seems to be happening for a small subset of users. It seems like the viewport is not adjusted correctly. This is hard for me to fix since it doesn’t happen on my system.

  25. Hi there, I’d like to thank you for this mod. The game looks so much nicer!
I think someone may already have requested this, but I’d like to get the game running on Fullscreen (Windowed). It would be a great addition <3

    Thank you very much!

  26. Any chance your able to fix the mouse camera movement, or add the ability to bind keys to different mouse buttons? If you can do these things then the game would be playable without the need for a controller.
If not, that’s alright, I love what you’ve done so far.

    • Since all my current work is done through a modified d3d9.dll I can’t really do anything about the input. Also, changing the executable is out because of GFWL. That leaves injection or another dll override, both of which require a lot of work. I want to finish fixing the graphical issues first.

  27. Thanks mate works brilliantly, Bandia Namco should give you a fucking huge donation for your work.

  28. disregard that last question
got it working by turning off AA in game.

    huge thanks for the patch
    lovin it already :D

  29. To anyone who sees this:
I am having trouble finding the folder I put these files into, any help?

  30. I can’t get it to start in window mode. I mean it starts, but the screen turns black with all settings.

Camera sensitivity seems too high for me

    +1 blur

also keep mouse locked while in window mode

  31. And for MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision-X, or Rivatuner display server use “framebuffer” instead of “viewport” and check “Enabled compatibility with modified Direct3D runtime libraries” in the wrench options button.

  32. Also, for SLi use these settings in NVIDIA inspector:

    SLI Compatibility bits: 0×00400005
    NVIDIA Predefined SLi mode: SLI_PREDEFINED_MODE_FORCE_AFR

But DON’T use “forceFullscreen” in DSfix.ini otherwise you get flickering screen, just set fullscreen in-game. the game will start windowed and then switch to fullscreen.

  33. I accidentally posted on the older version, but in case you didn’t see it, I wanted to say THANKS!!! I donated what little I could.

I got antialiasing through supersampling by setting the render res to 2x my 1080p monitor

    renderWidth 3840
    renderHeight 2160

for 1920×1200 people, use this. but pay attention and see if it’s actually doing something because higher than certain numbers weren’t working for me.

    renderWidth 3840
    renderHeight 2400

You can also just use multiples of the default 1024×720 which might work better if there’s graphical bugs, like 3x the default would be:

    renderWidth 3072
    renderHeight 2160

  34. Game runs at 5 fps with this version.

Was running just fine on the 0.2 mod yesterday.

    Anybody know a fix?

  35. Cheers for trying to sort out the game man, can’t thank you enough. I’ve got to ask though, is there any way to get rid of the fucking letterboxing? It’s basically my only issue now.

  36. Awesome job dude! Thanks.

PD: I have an issue with a software called “Action!”. It’s like Fraps, you can record gameplays with it. The point is, with fraps I have no issues, I can record but the videos are so huge (30sec@1080p=1GB) and with Action! 30min of uncompressed video @ 1080p are ~30GB, but with Action! the game crashes. Could you test it? I will be really happy and greatful if you can.
